Okey Hamrick

Okey Eugene Hamrick, 93 of Webster Springs passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Hilltop Center in Hilltop. He was born December 17, 1925 the son of the late John Andrew Jackson Hamrick (Happy Jack) and Sarah Lucinda Baldwin Hamrick.

Okey served in the United States Army until he got sick and earned an honorable discharge. He was a timber cutter and coal miner for many years. He served as a fire marshal for a short time. Okey never knew a stranger. He loved fishing, hunting, working in the garden, spending time with his grandkids, telling stories of his younger days, and pickin’ and singin’ with his banjo and harmonica.

He is survived by his wife Charlsie Hamrick who he married December 21, 1975; their two children Hobert Hamrick and Shirley Kay (Michael) Lough; six step-children David Lloyd, Larry Lloyd, Anna (Terry Trussel) Lloyd,  Rosa (George) Quinn,  Sandra (Brian) Eubank, and Linda (Max) Lowther; three grandchildren Michael Wayne Lough, Matthew Elden Hamrick, and Julie Lynn Lough; four step-grandchildren Lorina Quinn, Kimberly Quinn, Ashley (Justin) Spittler, and Mikaela (Brandon) Taylor; one step-great-grandchild Harley Quinn; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-brothers  Elsy, Lacy, and Alvie Hamrick; brothers Corley, Ordy, Leemon, Freeman, and ODell Hamrick; sisters Bertie Cowger, Effie Cowger, Goldie Tanner, Alta Cutlip, Nettie Cutlip, Betty Pugh, and Della Hamrick.

Friends may join the family for visitation on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 11:00 to 1:00 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Okey’s life will be held at 1:00 PM with Pastor Larry Cochran officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Cutlip-Lick Run Cemetery, Hacker Valley.
