Zelma Hamrick

Zelma Mae Chapman Hamrick, 75 of Webster Springs entered the Portals of Glory on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at her home with her family by her side. She was born September 19, 1940 in Diana to Columbus Bacel and Leola Jamison Chapman and was a lifelong resident of Webster County.

Zelma married the love of her life, Gerald Hamrick, on August 24, 1957 and together they raised their children in a home of laughter and love, guided by the Word of God. She loved her family and family gatherings, especially the holidays. Her greatest enjoyment was going to church with her family and reading the Bible.

She is survived by her husband Rev. Gerald C. Hamrick of Webster Springs; children Linda (Jackie) Cochran of Webster Springs, Gerald (Cyndi) Hamrick of Florence, SC, Mike (Karen) Hamrick of Webster Springs, Jane Cutlip of Buckhannon, and Bryan (Cindy) Swalley of Kenova; grandchildren Lindsey (Justin) Skidmore, Alex Cochran, Whitney Hamrick, Dane Hamrick, Scout Hamrick, Jacklin Mikel Hamrick, Isaac Cutlip, Hannah Cutlip, Allyson Swalley, Lydia Swalley, and Ty Swalley; great-grandchildren Sophie and Eliza Skidmore and LouAnn Cutlip; brothers Aaron (Cleo) Chapman, David (Shara) Chapman, and Kenneth (Casey) Chapman; sister Mary (Norman) McCourt; sister-in-law Sue Chapman; nieces and nephews; and many friends and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Clyde Chapman; and niece Tracy Chapman Phillips.

Our family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Kanawha Hospice, especially Amy, Ricky, and Agnes, and also Dr. Ali Sayed, Heather Woody, and Staff of Charleston Cancer Center for the wonderful care they gave to our wife and mother.

Please join the family for visitation on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Zelma’s life will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home with Rev. Sherman Goodwin and Rev. Sam Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Chapman Cemetery, Diana.
