Velmer M. Hamrick, 81 of Webster Springs, passed away on Wednesday, February 05, 2020 at Webster County Memorial Hospital. He was born December 15, 1938 in Webster Springs to the late Orden V. and Bessie Schofield Hamrick and was a lifelong resident of Webster County.
He retired from the Department of Highways after serving 30 years as Assistant Supervisor and was a member of the Barton United Methodist Church. He was a loving father and grandfather who loved making deer jerky and apple butter; he liked to joke and cut-up; and loved family functions and big dinners.
Velmer is survived by his daughter Diane Hamrick Hatcher; son John V. (wife Cheryl) Hamrick; grandchildren Chad, Caleb, Sean and Dustin Milam, Riva and Ryan Hatcher, Derek and Nick Hamrick, and Nick and Andy Boggs; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Patricia Wilson, Glenda Beckwith, Rita Rockenfelter, Judy Rose, and Debby Stewart; special friend Doug McCoy, and several other extended family and friends to mourn his passing. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Hayward, Cliford, and Leonal; and sisters Charlsie, Velda, Marcie, Donella, and Shirley.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Services to celebrate Velmer’s life will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home with Pastor Butch Rose and Brandon Moll officiating.
