Vella Beth Brown, born a beautiful, bouncing baby girl on October 2, 1940, to her parents Commodore and Bertie Cowger. She grew up with her brothers, sisters and friends running through the fields, creeks and woods on Lick Run.
As a young girl, she attended Lick Run School. As she grew, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Junior Brown, whom she made her life with until his passing in 2018. Vella and June welcomed their children: Danny (Sharon), Gary (Reta), Keith (Lisa), Kenny (Tammy), Katrina, and finally Karla (Matt) Coley who finished out the Brown family, and they made their home on Browns Mountain Road.
Vella and June were blessed as each of their children married and welcomed their 18 grandchildren: Robert (Judy) Brown, David (Amy) Pritchard, Joshua (Valerie) Bolar, Clayton (Ivy) Bolar, Adam Brown, Bryan (Kim Heater) Brown, Logan (Robert) Currence, Courtney Brown, Madison Brown, Cheyenne Brown, Jordan Brown, Drake Brown, Ryleigh Brown, Asasha (Billy) Hines, Hannah Curry, Devin Coley, and Garrett Coley; many great-grandchildren; and also one great-great-grandchild.
Vella touched many lives as she gave her life to helping her older friends; some of whom were younger than her. She worked at Shock’s Grocery in Cleveland, was a CNA at Braxton Health Care Center where she cared for her patients as if they were her own family, Hudkins Grocery, and Hinkle Grocery.
Vella entered into the beautiful gates of Heaven on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at her home and was welcomed by her parents, loving husband, brothers and sisters, daughter Brenda, former son-in-law Steve Bolar; and grandsons: Dustin Brown and Albert Pritchard who went on before her.
She is survived by her siblings: Carol (Mike), Sue, Kenny (Darlene), Caunny (Janet), and Earl; and son-in-law Jim Harry; and many extended family and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral Services to celebrate Vella’s life will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs with Pastor Chris Cosner officiating.
