Thelma Cogar Smith, 93 of Gauley River Road, Bolair, WV passed away at Elkins Hospice House on June 29, 2011. She was born July 24, 1917 in Bolair to Nimrod and Ellena Gregory Cogar and was a Protestant by faith. She worked in retail and the Laundromat business, enjoyed farming, gardening, canning, and embroidering, was known for being able to add figures mentally and was interested in family history and genealogy. She was one of the founders of the John R. Cogar Family Reunion. Thelma is survived by her daughter Sharon Walker of Bolair; grandson Kent (Amy) Walker of Bolair; sister Edna (Donald) Hines of Canton, Ohio; sister-in-law Vauna Cogar of Akron, Ohio; three step-grandchildren Dianna Higginbotham, Monte Walker Jr. and Nicholas Walker; and several step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Smith; parents; one sister and one brother. Friends may join the family for visitation on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 6-9 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 1 PM at the funeral home with Rev. David Terry, Rev. Marvin Harris, and Rev. Brandon Moll officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen.
