Shirley Loraine Simmons, 76 of Buckhannon passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at WVU Hospital Ruby Memorial after a brief illness.

Shirley was born May 15, 1950 in Hacker Valley to the late Odos and Dorothy Cowger Simmons. She worked at Central National Bank of Buckhannon, and after years of service, she retired from NASA.

She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crochet, painting and coloring pictures, gardening, fishing, and sewing. A great passion was singing with her sisters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Wilma Schmuck and Opal (husband Wendell) Bowyer; brother Delmos Paul Simmons; and brothers-in-law Okey Silman and Junior Silman.

Shirley is survived by her long time companion Michael Hazel; brother Loy (wife Lorraine) Simmons; sisters Goldie Silman, Velma (husband Ted) Silman, Wanda Silman, and Lillie (husband Gary) Fitzgerald; sister-in-law Linda Simmons; brother-in-law Jim Schmuck; and many extended family members and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on 1:00 PM, Friday, October 9, 2026 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs with Pastor Cecil Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Ware Cemetery in Hacker Valley.  Friends are invited to join the family for visitation 5-7 PM Thursday, October 8, 2026 at the funeral home.
