Sherman F. Pettry, Sr., 73 of Kopperston, WV, went home to his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Raleigh Center, Daniels, WV He was born May 11, 1951, in Charleston and was the son of the late Sherman M. And Gladys Mae Bailey Pettry. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Darlene R. Pettry, twin daughters, Nikki and Mikki Pettry and a brother, Charles "Eddie" Pettry.
Sherman was a 1971 graduate of East Bank High School. While in high school, he worked as a paperboy and also substitute custodian for Kanawha County Schools. He retired from Dominion Energy after many years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family, and close friends. His pride and joy was spending time with his family, children, and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Cindy Pettry and her companion, Rick Hanshaw, twin sons, Sherman F. Pettry, Jr and Charles M. Pettry and his wife Paige; grandchildren, Christopher, Zoe, Gabriel and Jaclyn Goff and Blayne Pettry; siblings, Bonnie Phelps and husband Robert, Kenny Pettry and Mary Sue Wyatt and husband Allen; brother in laws, Robert Davis Jr and wife Freda and Andy Davis and wife Devonda; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow, with Pastor Scott Neal officiating Friends may join the family for visitation 12 noon until service time at the cemetery.
Additional visitation will be held 6-8 PM, Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Sunrise Baptist Church, 1874 Kopperston Rd, Oceana.
