Ruby Garvin

Ruby Gay Garvin, 81 of Guardian passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston following an extended illness. She was born July 11, 1936 in Lick Run to Homer and Mary Moats Ware and was a homemaker. She was a lifelong resident of Webster County and Christian by faith.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband Denzil Paul Garvin; son Chester Ware; daughter Shirley Cutlip; grandchildren David Spittler, Colleen Hamrick, and Selena Williams; sisters Anna Pearl Casto, Dessie Hamrick Gordon, Ella Tanner, Lillie Cogar, Rose Cogar, Nellie Mace, and May Knight; brothers Hubert Ware and Roy Ware.

Ruby raised eight children and one grandchild; Wayne (wife Kathy) Garvin of Ohio, Stanley (wife Lynn) Garvin of Ohio, Matthew “Red” (wife Debbie) Garvin of Ohio, Chuck Garvin of Guardian, Kimberly (husband Stephen) Lynch of Guardian, Carey (husband James “Pedro”) Allen of Trinity, NC, Patricia “Trish” (husband Ronnie) Dunford of Trinity, NC, and Duke (wife Ashley) Cutlip of Rock Cave; 14 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

She loved spending time with her family. She opened her home and kitchen to anyone who visited. She enjoyed growing indoor and outdoor flowers and in her spare time she enjoyed crafting and quilting. You would find her at her sewing machine or with a needle and thread in her hand. Ruby enjoyed bird watching up until her final days. She was a mother by choice to all of the neighborhood kids and was a wonderful person to know. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Friends may join the family for visitation on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM at the Funeral Home with Brother Michael Cool officiating. Interment will follow in Cogar Cemetery, Guardian.
