Ruby Cowger

October 23, 1928 — March 5, 2018

Ruby Mae Cowger, 89 of Webster Springs went home with the Lord on Monday, March 5, 2018 at her home with her family by her side. She was born October 23, 1928 in Webster County to Robert and Ella Moats Cool.

She was a cook at the Hacker Valley School, cleaned cabins at the Holly River State Park, volunteered at the Hacker Valley Ramp Dinners cleaning ramps, and worked for the Webster County Senior Citizens.

Ruby is survived by her husband of 61 years, Doy D. Cowger, whom she dated for nine years before marriage; daughter Jennifer Marie McCourt; grandchildren Slader (wife Marlena) McCourt, Candace McCourt (companion Chad), Bill McCourt (companion Amy), Kevin McCourt, and Mike McCourt; great-grandchildren Lylian Rule, Peyton Rule, James (wife Hanah) McCourt, Shiana McCourt, Jasmine (Johnny) McCourt, Tiffany (Brandon) Jenkins, Devin McCourt, Harley McCourt, Nada McCourt, and Gage McCourt; great-great-grandchildren Olivia Jenkins, Wyatt McCourt, Mason McCourt, Grace Tenny, Abel McCourt, and Jackson Lewis; brother Gene (Gladys) Cool of Buckhannon; sisters-in-law Velva DeBarr of Ashtabula, OH, Vella (June) Brown of Replete, Clara (Ross) Payne of Webster Springs, Carol (Mike) Brown of Clarksburg,  Barbara Cowger Vilagi of AZ, and Goldie Cool of Morgantown; brothers-in-law Earl Cowger and Denver (Mary) Cowger both of Hobbs, NM, Caunny (Janet) Cowger of Vermillion, OH, and Kenny (Darlene) Cowger of Webster Springs; special kids Chuck Jordan, Crystal Jordan Smith, Charlie and Chelsa Jordan, Melissa Eubank Hamrick, David and Marissa Eubank, Derek Hamrick, Jim McCutchan, and Kathy Cool Bender; special neighbors Stanley and Oma Eubank, Mr. and Mrs. James Smith and family, Warden and Betty Clutter, Larry and Paul Green, Gueard and Pauline Jordan, Charl Jordan, and Francis and Frank Lynch; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mabel Cool, Lana Bleigh, Lenora Carpenter, and Opal Shuttlersworth; brothers Charles Cool and Bobby Cool; sisters-in-law Areta Cool, Wilda Cowger, and Helen Cowger; brothers-in-law Noah Bleigh, Arnel Carpenter, Howard Shuttlersworth, Clinton Cowger, Junior Cowger, Aunna Cowger, Lee Moats, and Ronnie Miles; son-in-law Andy McCourt; and mother and father-in-law Bertie and Commador Cowger.

Friends may join the family for visitation on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Ruby’s life will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home with Pastor Doy Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Cutlip-Lick Run Cemetery, Hacker Valley.
