Paul Johnson Tanner, 86, of Clearwater Florida, formerly of Elyria, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2019.
He was born in Webster Springs, WV to Albert and Icie Tanner on August 17, 1933. Paul was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and grace of Jesus Christ, our Savior. He was faithful in the church, serving as AWANA Leader, bus driver, usher and Board of Trustee. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Paul lived an example that inspired them all.
Paul was a proud patriot serving in the U.S. Army under the1st Infantry Big Red One Division
He is preceded in death by his twin sister, Pauline (Jordan); sister, Merle (Channel); and brothers, Howard and Lester. He is survived by his brother, Floyd Tanner.
Paul was completely devoted to his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth (Markley), who survives. He is also survived by his children, Cynthia Lane, Mark Tanner (Donna), Dr. Karen Gates (John), and Steven Tanner; Paul was a proud grandfather to Paul Bentley, James Tanner, Amanda Ramirez (Alex), Ryan Smith (Jessica), Scott Bentley (Cheryl), Renee Erkkila (Michael), Alan Smith (Meghan), Austin Smith (Ashley), Davie Garot (Dave), Stevie Craycraft (Ryan), and Savannah Tanner; and he was cherished by 15 beautiful great-grandchildren.
We praise the Lord for all Paul has given us and the legacy of his life on this earth. We will see you again one day.
Services to celebrate Paul’s life will be held 12 Noon, Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with the Pastor Shawn Bragg officiating. Friends may join the family for visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial with military honors will follow at Hall Cemetery, Guardian.
