Orla Lowther

June 26, 1915 — July 18, 2015

Orla June Hinkle Lowther, 100, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Webster Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter William Lowther, parents Lenna & Perry Hinkle, son H. Zane Lowther, daughter-in-law Sandra Lowther, son-in-law Elbert G. Gum, grandson-in-law Aaron Hamrick, and granddaughter-in-law Natalie Casto.

She is survived by her daughters Janice (husband Graden) Casto and Sharon Gum; son Max (wife Linda) Lowther; grandchildren Teri (husband Cares) Gillespie, Cheryl (husband Jim) Aleshire, Melisa Green, Kevin Casto, Kenney (wife Natalia) Casto, Julia (husband Randy) Rader, and Jamie Hamrick; great-grandchildren RC (wife Kara), Jackson (wife Tina), John (wife Natalie), Josh, Ingrid (husband Dallas), Sarah (husband Tim), Max, Nikki (husband John), and Gio; and great-great-grandchildren Nellie, Brayden, Kyan, Will, Katie, Ryelle, Bryce, Jayci, Hunter, Hollee, Tim, Jordan, Josiah, Rose, Natoshia, and Sophia.

Orla was a lifelong resident of Webster County, born in Wheeler, and was a member of the Mount Zion Church. She graduated from Webster Springs High School in May of 1937 and was a 4-H Leader, Member of the Hacker Valley Rebecca Lodge, and taught Sunday School. She worked on the farm and in her father’s store, which she inherited after her parents’ passing. She would later pass the farm and store to her son Max and wife Linda. She was a homemaker working alongside her husband of 58 years, raised four children who later would give her great joy in grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to visit her children and family in many different places. She loved meeting people, especially family and friends. She provided many wonderful stories about life before and after electric and other modern conveniences. She cherished all of her friendships new and old and corresponded with many of them through cards and letters.

Friends may join the family for visitation on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Orla’s life will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Cosner officiating. Orla will be laid to rest in the Alexander Anderson Cemetery.
