Opal Jane Griffith Sandy, 70 of Cowen, formerly of Gassaway, WV passed away on September 1, 2011 at Summersville Regional Medical Center. She as born February 3, 1941 in Bergoo, WV to Fred and Erma Griffith and was a homemaker and worked in laundry at Braxton County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, and watching soap operas.
Opal is survived by her sons Thurman Goff of Gassaway and David Goff of Tesla, WV; companion Carl Bauer of Gassaway; brothers Robert (Gloria) Griffith of Cowen and Carl (Pat) Griffith of Sutton; sister Louella (Dale) Bright of Webster Springs; grandchildren Kaylee (Scottie) Stout and Trevor Goff; step-grandchildren Janet (Josh) Hickman, Crissie, Bradley, and Katy Williams; and step-great-granddaughter Gracie Hickman. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Franklin and Walter C. Griffith; and sisters Shirley House, Macel Weaver, and Lorraine Eskew.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Monday, September 5, 2011 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home with Rev. Bud Cochran and Rev. Doug Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Parcoal.
