Norma Louise Rice

Norma Louise Young “Patsy” Rice, 87 of Chesterfield, Virginia, formerly of Bolair, Webster County, WV passed peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday, June 14, 2024.

 Patsy was born December 31, 1936 in Jerryville, WV to the late George Wilmer Young and Evelyn Milam “Eva” Young. She was fully committed to her husband of 70 years, leaving her childhood home and family to continue to grow their family and life together in Virginia. She was a dedicated homemaker, mother, grandmother, sister, and caregiver to many throughout her life. Over the years Patsy and Don, graciously opened their home many times to family and friends who needed a place to stay, only accepting love and friendship as payment; it truly blessed them to help others. Her home was a gathering place where there was always something simmering on the stove, something sweet on the table, and room for more. This held true when she traveled back home to West Virginia and stayed at her parent’s old home, always welcoming friends and family to stop by, sit, swing, and visit on the porch, and there was always a pot of coffee brewing. She had many names her family lovingly called her including Sugarbaby and Memaw, which was the name all the children she babysat called her whether they were related to her or not, she cared for and loved them all as her own.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Burton “Don” Rice, her brothers George Lantz “Sonny” Young, Velton Howard “Bunny” Young, David Paul “Dave” Young Sr., and Jeffrey Alden “Jeff” Young; sisters Shirley Ann Young Moore Tibbs, Genelda Lee Young, and Edra Vercanna Young Green; son-in-law David Wayne Williams; and great-granddaughter Kirstin Dawn Ellis.

 Left to cherish her memory are her children; sons George Donald “Punkin” Rice (Rita), and Timothy Lane “Timmy” Rice (Teresa); daughters Tammra Inez “Tammy” Dingle (Sam), Eva Jolene “Joey” Williams, Twyla Louise Wyland (Eddie), Stephanie April “April” Smith (Louis), Mary Colleen DeNoewer (Chuck); brothers Mark Douglas Young and John Wilmer Young; sisters Nancy Roberta Young Williams and Alida Faye Young Cowger; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and many friends and extended family members.

 Funeral Services to celebrate Patsy’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 30 2024, at Emmanuel Assembly of God with Pastor Marty Cowger officiating. Interment will follow in Young Family Cemetery, Bolair.

 Friends may join the family for visitation two hours prior to service time, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church.
