Mary Catherine "Kitty" Underwood

Mary Catherine "Kitty" Underwood, 88, was born on March 8, 1929, and passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 in Morgantown.

She was the daughter of Harrison Ray House and Ora Myrtle Arbogast House of Webster Springs. A member of the First Baptist Church of Webster Springs since 1941, she taught Sunday School for 1st and 2nd grades for 30 years. At the church, she also was a Bible School teacher for many years, a former local President for American Baptist Women and officer of the Nicholas-Webster American Baptist Women. She was also active in church circles and served as a Deaconess following the ordination of her husband, Dale "Breeze" Underwood, whom she married in July, 1953. Kitty had been a waitress at Phil's Restaurant in Elkins, a former teacher's aide, store clerk and Cub Scout and 4-H Leader. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. Kitty and Breeze very much enjoyed meeting their friends regularly at the Webster Springs Senior Center.

Kitty was the mother of two sons, Randall (wife Audrey) of Morgantown and Kenneth of Elkins. She had three grandchildren, Andrew of Falls Church, VA, Aimee of Morgantown and Eric of Mt Nebo. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers Hayward, Ralph, Edward and Franklin.

Services to celebrate Kitty’s life will be held 1PM, Monday, January 15, 2018 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs with the Rev. Richard L. Pursley and the Rev. Nancy L. Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Miller Cemetery, Webster Springs.

Friends may join the family for visitation two hours prior to the service.
