Lonnie Short

Lonnie Howard Short, 63, of Jumbo, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025 at United Health Center in Bridgeport.

Born September 10, 1961, in Webster Springs, he is the son of Charles “Bubby” Short and the late Marian (Rogers) Short. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, James “Junior” Short.

Lonnie worked as a coal miner for the majority of his life, eventually having earned the title of Federal Mine Inspector. Though his expertise was in the mining industry, he was a jack of all trades and could accomplish any task that he was asked to complete; especially if it meant he got to tinker on vehicles. As an avid hunter, Lonnie enjoyed camp-life, and all that the outdoors had to offer. He could often be found on his side by side in the woods, or on a long stretch of highway letting his Harley Davidson motorcycle stretch her legs. He absolutely loved to travel; and enjoyed having gatherings with his family, friends, and his dogs.

In addition to his father, Bubby Short, Lonnie is survived by his loving wife, Jessica (Cutlip) Short; son, Jeremie Short; grand-daughter, Madison Short; sisters: Carrie Gress and Charlotte Short; sister-in-law, Charl Jordan; brother-in-law, Elvis Cutlip; nieces and nephews: Ashley Cutlip, Cynthia Short, Charlie Jordan, Chelsie Bender, CJ Short, Chandra Gress, Alec Gress, and Melody Norton; great-niece: Charlotte Bender; and a host of other relatives and good friends that will mourn his passing.

Services to celebrate his life will be held 11am, Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Pastor Jeff Swecker officiating. Burial will follow at Dave Cogar Cemetery, Sugar Creek.

Friends may join the family from 6-9pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 for visitation, also at the funeral home.
