Lester Sterling Clifton, 81 of Volga passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at his residence.  He was born May 20, 1931 in Webster County to Parker and Virginia Brady Clifton.  He lived his early years up Jumbo with his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.  He moved to Ohio still a teenager and got a job.  He worked for a while then joined the Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War Conflict.  He was honorably discharged in 1954.  He had four daughters by his first marriage; they are Brenda (Merle) Mack, Reginia Goon, Vicky (Tony) Mattina, and Kathy Phillips, all of Medina, Ohio.  He retired from Whirlpool in Clyde, Ohio after 20 years of service.

He married Edith Gibson from Webster County on May 27, 1967 and moved to Dearborn, Michigan for diesel mechanics.  He worked several years as a diesel mechanic in Ohio before moving back to West Virginia.  He retired in 1993 as a heavy diesel mechanic from Kenster Corp. in Maryland.  Lester and Edith had three children.  Their first is Jennifer Gillespie of Clarksville, Tennessee.  She and her husband Dave have a daughter Brittany.  Jennifer retired from the military after 22 years of service.  Their second Cassie Clifton of Barracksville, WV, graduated with a Master's Degree from WVU.  She works as a technical writer for a government agency.  Her child is a Great Pyrenies dog named Toby.  Their third child is Les Clifton lives in Rivesville, WV with his wife Tammy and their three boys Nathan who is 11, Nicky who is 9, and Noah who is 7.  Les will be retiring from the Army in September of 2013 after 22 years of service.

Lester is also survived by sisters Aretha Robinson of Fostoria, Ohio and Geraldine Postalwait of Jumbo.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Dwayne, Dorman, and Donald Clifton.

During his retirement years, Lester enjoyed spending time in his garage working with wood.  Lester had great craftsmanship making replacement parts for just about anything needed for himself, his family, and his close friends.  He also loved his TV shows especially westerns.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Friends may join the family for visitation on Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Upper Holly Union Mission Church, Jumbo.  Funeral Services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Church with Rev. Eddie Bender officiating.  Interment will follow in McCoy Cemetery, Jumbo.
