Kathleen Markle

July 11, 1929 — January 22, 2017

Kathleen Gaye (Cogar) Markle, 87, of Webster Springs, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Webster County Memorial Hospital. Born July 11, 1929 in Braxton County, she was the daughter of the late Alva and Iva (Payne) Cogar.  In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Stanton Markle; son, Larry Joe Markle; brother, Ray Cogar; and sisters, Ruth Cool, Anna B. Mustoe, and Shirley Cogar.

She was a graduate of Webster Springs High School, where she played basketball.  Kathleen enjoyed camping and boating.  She especially enjoyed cooking; often making meals that would feed a crowd.  She was known for her green-thumb and people often commented on her beautiful flower garden.  Kathleen enjoyed sports, more specifically, watching her children and grandchildren play.  She was a very gifted pianist, playing for Barton United Methodist Church, where she was a member.  Her talents expanded into singing, as she was also a member of a quartet.  Kathleen loved people, and in return was very well-loved.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Danny (Joyce) Markle of Webster Springs, Debra (Bryan) Moore of Webster Springs, Shannon (Jennifer) Markle of Gassaway, and John (Tammy) Markle of King, NC; grandchildren, Danielle (Eric) Brooks, Seth (Sherry) Markle, Gabriel (Leslie) Markle, Mark (Shala) Barnette, Jason (Susie) Markle, Travis Markle, Amber Markle, Riley Markle, Katelyn Markle, Kacie Markle, Renee (James) Woods, TJ (Jenny) Dillon, and Eva Dillon; twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one expectant great-grandson; and 8 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby (Sharon) Cogar of OH; sister, Betty Cutlip of Bergoo; her beloved companion, her dog, Rosie; and her cat, Blackie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

The family would like to extend a thank you to Gentiva Home Health, Webster County Memorial Hospital and Staff, Heather Meadows, FNP, and her in-home caregivers, Renee Woods, Penny Seville, Diane Hatcher, Libby Hines, Amy Moffatt, Kristina Moffatt, Karen Kinney, Cheryl Hamrick and Linda Hamrick and many friends and neighbors; all for allowing her to be at her home as much as possible during her illness.

Services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home with the Rev. Brandon Moll officiating.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Webster Springs. Friends may join the family for visitation 6PM-9PM on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Barton United Methodist Church, PO Box 406, Webster Springs, WV 26288 or Webster County Senior Citizen’s Center, 148 Court Square, Webster Springs, WV 26288 in her memory.
