John Gordon Foster, Sr. 80, of Webster Springs passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at his home.
Born April 28, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ruth (Oles) and Gordon Foster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Angel Marie Hudson; and his sister, Cheryl Foster.
John was a retired sailor from the United States Coast Guard, where he earned many awards and commendations. He was Chief Boatswain Mate (E7) and a 5th generation military serviceman, and the tradition continues with his son and grandson. An avid fan of both football and baseball, he was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. He enjoyed watching westerns, particularly enjoying watching most John Wayne movies. His favorite western was “The Searchers”. When he was able, he could be found gardening, golfing, or fishing. He even taught himself how to tie flies in which to fish.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Helen (Jones) Foster; children: John G. Foster, II (companion, Lisa Kasee) and Kristin (Jason) Tanzi; grandchildren: Christina Edinger, Justin Edinger, Ashley Biser, Matthew (Krystal) Foster, Kaitlynn Atkins, Shawn Kasee, Mattison Crystal (Spencer), Samuel Tanzi, Ryan Tanzi, Bradley Hudson, Josh Hudson, and Allyssa Hudson; five great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter on the way; neighbor and friend, Gloria Gregory; and a host of extended relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Services to celebrate John’s life will be held 12:30 PM, Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Pastor Steve White officiating.
