James Lawrence Bruffy, 89 of Webster Springs passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his residence. He was born May 29, 1924 in Cowen to James N. and Bessie (McCartney) Bruffy and was a lifelong resident of Webster Springs. He was a retired coal miner, owning his own coal mines for several years and was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II. He loved fishing, gardening, boating, and camping. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Lawrence is survived by his sons Robert Lawrence (wife Janice) Bruffy of Webster Springs and James Nixon Bruffy of Webster Springs; daughters Elaine L. (husband Doyle) McCoy of Webster Springs and Shirley Ann (husband David) Miller of Bolair; brothers Homer Lee (Sharon) Bruffy of Caldwell, OH and Nelson (wife Peachie) Bruffy of West Union; sisters Shirley Naomi Clutter of West Salem, OH, Ellen Ann (Ernest) Givens of Folsom, CA, Charlotte (husband Jerry) Jeffrey of North Scituate, RI, Karen K. Hall of Selbyville, Verna Mae (husband Jack) Nistendirk of South Carolina, Mary Helen Mazzo of Templeton, CA, Alice Belle Brown of Morgantown, Janet (husband Andrew) Cochran of White marsh, VA, and Linda Lou (husband Don) Saffle of Chippewa Lake, OH; ten grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Anna Gray Clutter Bruffy; and brothers Johnny and Shorty.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Lawrence's life will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Nichols and Rev. Paul Rounds officiating. Interment will follow in Clifton-Ford Cemetery, Webster Springs.
