Hubert D. Carpenter, 97 of Hacker Valley passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Webster Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 3, 1917 in Cowger Hill to Jasper Newt and Roena Cowger Carpenter and was a lifelong resident of Webster County. He was a retired timber cutter and enjoyed working, deer hunting, and gardening. He was Christian by faith and attended Cowger Hill Community Church. Hubert is survived by his sons Dempsey (wife Wilma Jean) Carpenter and Loy (wife Loretta) Carpenter; daughter Arvilla (husband Richard) Moats; brother Olan Carpenter; sisters Alta Cogar, Edna Simmons, Alma Anderson, Goldie Cool, and Margie (husband Wilbert) Cutlip; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special niece Darlene. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Georgia Cowger Carpenter; brother Opha Carpenter; and sisters Macel Simmons and Bertha Simmons. Friends may join the family for visitation on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Hubert's life will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM at the Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Cosner officiating. Interment will follow in Ware Cemetery, Cowger Hill.
