Homer Ray Grounds, 56 of Webster Springs passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. He was born June 15, 1959 in Zenia, Ohio to Homer Dallas and Nina Gay Cowger Grounds and was a lifelong resident of Webster County. He was a United State Marine Corp veteran, a former sawmill worker, and a Christian. Homer enjoyed fishing, camping, four-wheeling, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a “jack of all trades” and enjoyed using his skills to help others.
Left to cherish their precious memories of life with Homer are his wife of almost 36 years Arlene May Carpenter Grounds; children Joshua Dewayne (Jessica) Grounds of Ohio, Amanda Mashell Swalley (companion Steve McMillion) of Huntington, and Terrance Wooten of Baltimore, Maryland; brothers James (Connie) Grounds of Springfield, Ohio and Phillip (Debbie) Grounds of Columbus, Ohio; sisters Ina (Walter) Grounds Blazer of Rusk, Texas and Sarah (Mike) Christian of Craigsville; grandchildren Allyson Swalley, Olivia McMillion, and Branson and Felicity Grounds; Darlene Jordan his special caregiver and twin sister of Arlene; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Billy Wayne Grounds.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 11:00 to 1:00 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Homer’s life will be held at 1:00 PM with Rev. Doy Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin.
