Hacker Valley

Geretta Elaine “Sue” (Bender) Pugh, 69, of Hacker Valley passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Mon General in Morgantown.

Born on January 30, 1956 in Buckhannon, she was the daughter of the late Jearl Curt Bender and the late Velma (Cowger) Bender Jordan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, who was very pivotal in her raising, Edward “Jink” Jordan; brothers: Herbert, Ervin David, and Edward Bender; sister, Mary Mills; son-in-law, James Whitt; and a great-grandson.

Sue was known to be a jokester, making any situation a little more light-hearted. She loved her kids and her grandkids with all of her heart, and she often bragged about them to anyone that would listen and how proud of them she was. She could often be found taking walks with her best friend, Linda, porch sitting to watch for hummingbirds, or in church, praising her Lord, at Hacker Valley Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory after 55 wonderful years is her husband, Bernard Pugh, Jr.; her daughters and their companions, Hannah Pugh and Robert Allen of Elkins, and April Pugh and Melanie Riffle of Buckhannon; grandkids: James Whitt, Jr., Christian Whitt, Cherokee Whitt, Jake Gibson, Skylar Gibson, and Saphire Allen; step-granddaughter, Katie Riffle; one great-granddaughter, one step-great granddaughter, Bryleigh Riffle; brothers: Ernie, Marvin, and Andrew Bender; sisters: Linda Mayle, Connie Clark, Renita Crowe, Joan Williams, and Desta Harvey; step-brothers: Randall and Rodney; best friend, Linda Gum, as well as her daughters that meant so very much to Sue: Crystal Moran, Nola Yamamoto, Elizabeth Springer, and Heidi Gum; son-in-law, Jason Whitt; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Services to celebrate Sue’s life will be held 2pm, Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Pastor Ed Groves officiating. Friends may join the family for a visitation from 1-2PM, prior to the service.
