Gary Lee Sparks

Gary Lee Sparks, 67 of Webster Springs passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Webster County Memorial Hospital. He was born February 3, 1958 in Richwood to the late George Junior and Delphia Blankenship Sparks.

He worked for the WV Department of Highways, retiring after 20 years of service. He loved camping, hunting, four-wheeling, and riding the side by side along the Elk River. He retired from the Webster Springs Volunteer Fire Department after serving 19 years and was Baptist by faith. His grandbabies were his world; he loved to spoil them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Susan Kopanko; brothers: Delbert, Charles, and George Steve Sparks; and sisters: Reva Dale Williams, Carolyn Riffle, and Ellen Ann Sparks.

Left to cherish his memory are his girlfriend and best friend Barbara Ann; children: Shelli White (Allen Mathes), Bub Sparks, Steve Pyle, Chris Pyle, and Amy Richardson; grandchildren: Savanna, Sydney, Andrew, and Raven White, Jace and Khalessi Mathes, Brandon Sparks, Harley Nelson, and eight other grandchildren; sister Ruth (Darrell) Clevenger; special nieces and nephews: Timmy, Tammy, Joyce and Kevin; special great-nieces: Kristen Hamrick and Katie Lowther; special friends: Boone Hamrick, Teet Clayton, and Junior “Papaw” Hines; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral Services to celebrate Gary’s life will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025 at 6:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Pastor Butch Rose officiating. Friends may join the family for visitation two hours prior to service time, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Dodd & Reed Funeral Home to assist with costs.
