Hacker Valley

Doris M. Pugh Jordan, 85 of Hacker Valley passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. She was born March 6, 1938 in Hacker Valley to the late Cecil and Genevieve (Davis) Pugh.

Doris lived in the Hacker Valley area all her life and held various jobs over those years. She was a lifelong member of Jerry Run United Methodist Church. She was Youth Leader, Adult Sunday School Teacher, and helped with Bible School. She also had the responsibility of sending cards from the church family. 

Doris was very involved with helping youth over the years, volunteering countless hours as a 4-H leader; taking the youth on field trips, helping with Youth Conservation Day, and attending 4-H camp.

She loved to sew, do quilting, and crocheting. She loved working in her flower gardens and taking long walks on the mountain top. 

She was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College receiving her Teacher’s Credentials. She belonged to the Webster County Association of Retired School Employees. She dedicated many years as a teacher’s aide and school teacher. She also was a substitute for many years.

Doris found immense joy in spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 ½ years, Lowell “Calvin” Jordan and her oldest grandson Joseph Stewart Cochran.  

Left to cherish her memory are her three children and their families; Allen (Karen) Jordan; Vivian (Max) Cochran, and Peggy Lough; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson (Jazz Cochran).

Funeral Services to celebrate Doris’ life will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Jerry Run United Methodist Church, Cleveland, WV with Pastor Chris Cosner officiating. Interment will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Replete. 

Friends may join the family for visitation one hour prior to service time, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, at the church.
