Delores Gene Bender

Delores Gene Bender, 90 of Hacker Valley went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

She was born October 15, 1933 in Bendertown to the late Roy and Delphia Bleigh Woods. She retired from the Webster County Board of Education where she worked as a custodian and was a member of the Bendertown Community Church.

Gene was a loving, caring, and family oriented person. She loved the beach and the white sands of New Mexico; she loved to cook for her family and always wanted to feed everyone. You never left her house hungry. She enjoyed canning, sewing, hunting, making clothes, and taking care of all the neighborhood kids.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Leonard Bender of over 58 years and second Dana Hartsel Bender; children Viola “Bugs” Fisher and Naomi Jean Bender; and brothers Junior Gail Woods, Orvil Woods, and Darrell Woods.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Barbara (Garry) Simmons, Danny (Diane) Bender, Ronnie Bender, Janet (Bob Clark) Bender, Kathy (Emmett McElwain) Haymond, Donzel (Teresa) Bender, and Scott (Chasity) Bender; sons-in-law Andy Fisher and Kenny Haymond; step-sons: David (Nova) Bender, Dana (Diane) Bender, and Eddie (Nora) Bender; sisters-in-law Anetha Woods and Rosalee Woods; grandchildren: Shelly, Diane, Daniel, Zachery, Travis, Tina, Eric, Michelle, Lisa, Heather, Brittany, Brandon, Trevor, Emma, Christy, and Jethro; great-grandchildren: Shylynn, Caden, Jason, Prescott, Hadley, Jordan, Jonah, Stormie, Travis, Steph, and Hanna; and several extended family and friends to mourn her passing.

Friends may join the family for visitation on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. Funeral Services to celebrate Gene’s life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Cosner officiating. Interment will follow in Life Cemetery, Cleveland.
