Columbus Cowger, 94 of Webster Springs, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Webster County Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 31, 1932 in Hacker Valley to the late Hylard and Lena Simmons Cowger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing yard work. He loved everyone, especially his grandchildren, and was a good provider, taking care of his kids. He retired from the Steel Mills in Ohio and then came back to WV and retired from the WV Department of Highways.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Larry Cowger; brothers: Newton Cowger and Denzil Cowger; and sister Lucealie Gillespie.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Connie Coleman Cowger; son James Cowger of Marianna, FL; daughter Agatha Brooks of Webster Springs; brother Arnel (Karen) Cowger; sister Pauline Jordan; grandchildren: Stephanie Justice, Jessica Bevins, and Clinton Shane Brooks; great-grandchildren: Laurren, Ally, Alyssa, Kelsie, Caleb, Jenna, Nachell, Addison, Beaux; great-great-grandchildren: Emma, Elijah, Addison, Allison, Aubree, Parker, and Elijah; and many extended family and friends to mourn his passing.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs.
Funeral Services to celebrate Columbus’ life will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Cosner officiating. Interment will follow in Ware Cemetery, Hacker Valley.
