Christopher Douglas Hines, 44 of Birch River lost his battle with the demons of PTSD on Monday, December 11, 2023. Chris was born July 16, 1979 in Webster Springs to Debbie Hamrick and Joseph D. Hines, Jr.

Chris was a 1997 Graduate of Webster County High School where he played football and wrestled. He lived most of his life in Webster County and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hanging out with his family and friends.

After the terror attacks of 9/11, Chris enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he attained the rank of Sergeant and served two tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and receiving numerous commendations and honors.

Chris was Superintendent for Oil and Gas for Mason Dixon Energy, an electrician in the coal mines, and Supervisor of Hamer’s sawmill.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Joe D. Sr. and Hannelore “Honey” Hines and Forrest Hamrick and June Goff.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Tessa and Hannelore “Hanna” of Mt. Lookout, whom he cherished and loved with all his heart; parents Joseph Hines, Jr. (Patty) of Diana and Debbie (special Step-father Alvin) Lee of Burnsville: sisters Shelly Hines of Webster Springs, Angie (Jason) Clutter of Diana, Deanna (Brian) Tomblin of Hurricane, and Sandy (Dukk) Cutlip of Diana; brothers Joseph Hines, Justin (Sierra Riffle) Hines, both of Diana, and Billy (Asasha) Hines of Hacker Valley; mother of his children Crystal Hines; step-grandparents Jack and Rose Lee Burnsville; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, former military brothers, and many childhood friends and acquaintances.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 8:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs with Pastor Cofer “Bud” Cochran officiating. Friends may join the family for visitation 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM at West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton. Please meet at the Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project PO Box 758516 Topeka, KS 66675-8516, Tunnel to Towers 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306, or Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center PTSD Program One Medical Center Drive, Clarksburg, WV 26301.
