Caroline Sue Clayton, 77 of Webster Springs passed away Friday, August 23, 2024, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Caroline was born July 24, 1947, in Clarksburg and was the daughter of the late Henry and Fonda Cogar Mick.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Barbara Hines and Wendell and Patty Mick.
Caroline attended the West Virginia State Police Academy. She was a former city police officer for the Town of Addison Webster Springs. She was also elected Sheriff of Webster County, serving 1984-1988 and then again in 1997-2004. Caroline enjoyed cooking, camping at the family camp in Desert Fork, water skiing, boating, hunting, fishing ,taking care of her pets; but most of all, spending time with her loving family.
Caroline had a giving heart, if you were in need, she would do what she could to help. In her younger years, she enjoyed singing country music with her family and was even known as the "Singing Sheriff."
Surviving are her loving husband, Stanley; son, James Clayton and his wife Sharon, daughter, Becky Cutlip and her husband Jim; grandchildren, Daniel (Cris) Cutlip, Christopher Clayton and his wife Bethany and Alison Jordan and her husband Zarron; great granddaughter, Faith Clayton and also a brother, David Mick.
Friends may join the family for visitation 6-9 PM, Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 AM Wednesday at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Varney officiating. Burial will follow at Cogar Cemetery, Desert Fork.
