August 14, 1925 — January 30, 2017

Alta Belle Carpenter Cogar, 91 of Hacker Valley passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon with her two nieces and caregiver by her side.

Alta was born on August 14, 1925 in Webster County the daughter of Jasper Newt and Roena Cowger Carpenter.

From the age of 15 she dedicated her time and life to care for Wesley and Alta Anderson until their death. She was a lifetime member of Hacker Valley Methodist Church & Rebekah Lodge 91. She was a loving, caring sister, aunt, or friend to everyone she came in contact with. She was a Christian by faith and was at peace with Jesus.

Alta is survived by her sisters, Edna Simmons, Alma Anderson, Goldie Cool, and Margie Cutlip; brother Olen Carpenter; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cecil Cogar; brothers Hubert and Opha Carpenter; and sisters Macil Simmons and Bertha Simmons.

Friends may join the family for visitation on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Alta’s life will be held on Friday at 12:00 PM at the Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Cosner officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery, Buckhannon.
