Wendell Gum

March 18, 1939 ~ August 10, 2017 (age 78)

Wendell J. Gum, 78, lifelong resident of Webster Springs, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston. 

Wendell was a retired coal miner and UMWA member.  He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and watching baseball.  He attended New Hope Church in Diana.  Wendell was also a minister and had an unmatched love for his Lord and Savior.

Born March 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Alva George and Lula May (Hines) Gum.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kimothy Gum; brothers, Bob Hines, Gerald Gum, Eugene Gum; and half-sister, Juanita McCoy.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Allena Carol (Pritt) Gum; daughter, Tammy (husband, Kevin) Moss of St. Albans; grandchildren, Courtney (husband, Ritchie) Goode of Mobile, AL, Kenny Lee Gum of Webster Springs, and Haley (husband, Rick) Cherba of Annapolis, MD; four great-grandsons, Levi, Tripp, Chase, and Cole; brothers, Gary Gum and Garnett Gum; sisters, Rosie Clevenger and Nancy Tanner; half-brother, Ronnie Clevenger; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends to mourn his passing.

Services to honor Wendell’s life will be held 2PM, Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Bender officiating.  Burial will follow at Holly River Baptist Church Cemetery.

Friends may join the family for visitation 6-9 Monday evening at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs.
