Louella Bright

October 16, 1943 — February 9, 2020

Louella Sue (Griffith) Bright, 76, of Webster Springs, passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2020, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport with her family by her side. She was born October 16, 1943, in Bergoo, WV to Fred and Erma Griffith, the eighth of nine children.

She was a lifelong resident of Webster County and worked in the Webster County school system for over 30 years, starting out as a teacher’s aide and nurse’s aide before moving over to the Board of Education to manage the Materials Center. At the time of her retirement, she worked as the secretary to the county superintendent of schools.  During retirement, Louella became an avid player of Hearts and other online games.  More than anything, Louella enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and their families. Louella was a member at Webster Springs First Baptist Church where she taught in the nursery, was a Baptist Youth Fellowship leader and Vacation Bible School coordinator for many years.  She was also a 4-H leader and a Den Mother in Cub Scouts.

Louella was preceded in death by her husband Dale Bright; her parents Fred and Erma Griffith; her brothers Walter Clay Griffith and Franklin Griffith; and her sisters, Macel Weaver, Lorraine Eskew, Shirley House and Opal Sandy.

Louella is survived by her two sons, Dennis (wife, Cheryl) of Parkersburg, WV, and Kevin (wife, Andrea) of Midlothian, VA; brothers Robert Griffith of Cowen and Carl Ray Griffith of Sutton; grandchildren Tawnya (husband, Jeff) DeLancey, Aaron (wife, Chelsy) Smith, Jasmine Warner, Caitlin Bright, Sydney Martin, Kaylyn Smith, JD Bright and Cooper Bright; great-grandchildren Payton Rector, William DeLancey and James Hassel; her invaluable helper and “adopted” daughter Tammy Jordan McCoy; and many other extended family and friends.
