Bobby Gene Snyder, 72 of Hillsboro, WV formally of Cowen and Marlinton passed away March 8, 2010 at Summersville Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born at Erbacon, WV on April 26, 1937 a son of the late Van and Virginia Cobb Snyder.
Bob was the former owner of Buckeye Country Mart near Marlinton, WV. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his son.
Suvivors include son Robert "Rob" Snyder of Elkview, WV; brothers, Lowell and wife Joy Snyder of Cowen; Steve and wife Evon Snyder of Webster Springs, WV; sisters, Carol and husband Richard Riling of Charleston,WV; Judy and husband Mike Wood of Princton, WV; and Sally and husband Bill Reeder of Cowen; granddaughter, Crystal Snyder of Sutton, WV and 3-great-grandsons.
Service will be held Thursday March 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at WV Memorial Gardens, Calvin, WV with Rev. Ron George officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. Friends will be recevied Wednesday March 10, 2010 from 5:-8:PM at Adams-Reed Funeral home, Cowen.


 
 
Leone B. Anderson
March 7, 2010

Ms. Leone B. Anderson, 83, of Webster Springs, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the Webster County Memorial Hospital.
Leone was born May 19, 1926 in Dessert Fork to Owen and Blanche (McCartney) Ware. She lived most of her life in Elyria OH but returned to Webster County three years ago.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Mancil and Lawrence Ware.
Leone will be missed by daughters Tina Lowe of Webster Springs and Donna Jo Coleman of Elyria, OH; sons Earl Anderson of Diana; Edward Kitting of Elyria, Oh and Ernest “Skip” Stewart of Milford, OH; ex-husband Oden B. Anderson of Cowen; Four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 1 to 2 PM in the chapel of Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM with Reverend Lonnie Casto officiating. Leone will be laid to rest in the Odd Fellow’s Cemetery, Diana, WV.

Veronica B. Davis 39 of Mount Hope formally of Cowen, WV passed away March 4, 2010 after a brief illness at CAMC Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Ravenna, OH on September 1, 1970 a daughter of Fred and Charlotte Holbrook Bennett of Cowen.
She was preceded in death by a brother Frederick Daniel Bennett.
She was a Baptist by faith, enjoyed her family, friends and working. She was a general manager for Chili’s.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband John “Jack” Davis, Jr. of Mount Hope; son Lex Davis of Mount Hope; daughter, Miranda Davis of Mount Hope; sister, Connie Dawn Bennett Gumm of Summersville; nephews, Garrett and Grant Gumm; and Rhett Thompson; niece, Johnna Thompson.
Service will be held 10:AM Monday March 8, at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Cowen with Rev. dennis Chasteen officiating. An additional service will be held Monday March 8, at 3:30PM at Morgan Funeral Home, Reedsville, WV. Friends will be received Sunday March 7, from 5:-8PM at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Cowen. Delia Ruth (Hall) Treciak, 86, of Webster Springs, passed away March 3, 2010 at the Webster County Hospital.
She was born March 26, 1923 to John Edward and Una Bell (Baker) Hall and was a life long resident of Webster County.
Preceding Delia Ruth in death are her parents; husband Frank Treciak; daughters Pelma Hall and Leola Fraley; sisters Violet Carpenter, Lilly and Shirley Brooks, Dorthy Faultiner, Rosie and Estie Hall; brothers Frank and Love Hall and grand-daughter Georgianna Cowger.
She is survived by daughters Phyllis Cowger and Loretta and husband Marvin Butcher of Webster Springs; Darlene and husband Edgar Hall of Grassy Creek and Joan and husband Gary Freeman of Milton; sons Bill and wife Jenne Treciak of Fredericksburg, VA and Steve Hall of Webster Springs, sister Janet Brooks of Sullivan; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren.
Friends may gather with the family on Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 12 to 2 PM in the chapel of Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM with Rev. Gerald Hamrick officiating. Okey O’Dell Hamrick
Okey O’Dell Hamrick 71, of Webster Springs, WV, died on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, in Summersville Memorial Hospital, Summersville, WV. He was born May 5, 1938 in Bergoo, WV, the son of the late Luther M. and Mary Baldwin Hamrick. He was a life long resident of Webster County, a coal miner and attended the Family Worship Center in Webster Springs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his ATV and playing cards.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Ernest, Dalvin, Denzil, Denver, Lou, and Hughie, and sisters: Arletta, Lucille, and Virginia.
He is survived by daughters: Vickie Elaine Fisher of Diana, WV, Debra Kay McIe of Cowen, WV, and Cheryl Ann Rumney of Webster Springs, brother: Wilson Hamrick of Wallace, WV, step sons: Harold David Lough of TN, and Gary Lough of Baltimore, MD, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, WV, with Pastor Joe Clutter officiating. Irene Gladys Carpenter 77, of 1087 Cowger Hill Rd., Hacker Valley, WV, died on Feb. 23, 2010, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, WV. She was born in Wheeler, WV, on March 10, 1932, the daughter of the late Jesse James and Flossie Simmons Silman. She was a homemaker, a member of Long Run Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing. She had lived all her life in Hacker Valley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Walter & Vance Silman, and sisters: Alta Turner Bender and Nora Ann Simmons. Survivors include her husband: Olen Carpenter of Hacker Valley, sons: Don (Nettie) Carpenter of Morgantown, WV, Mark (Tammy) Carpenter and Leon Carpenter all of Hacker Valley, daughter: Darlene Cochran of Cowen, WV, brothers: Junior and Theodore Silman both of Hacker Valley, Ed Silman of Michigan, and Okey Silman of French Creek, WV, sisters: Pearl Bender of Bendertown, WV, and Dessie Roby of Hopewell, VA, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, WV, Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Larry Cochran officiating. Burial will be in the Ware Cemetery, Hacker Valley. Friends may call on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

February 19, 2010

Cecil Howard Fletcher, II 30 of Upperglade, Wv passed away in Webster County Memorial Hospital from a sudden illness. He was born in Texarkana, TX on June 11, 1979 the son of the Cecil Fletcher and the late Dorris Ethridge Fletcher.
Cecil was employedat Brooks Run Coal Company as a tester for the past two years. He attended Bethel United Methodist Church, Camden on Gauley, WV.
Survivors inclued wife, Jean Lough Fletcher of Upperglade; Son Logan Fletcher and daughter, Jacqueline Fletcher both of Upperglade; father and step-mother, Cecil and Lula Fletcher of Craigsville; birth father, Gerald Morrow of Tx.; birth mother, Cecile Fletcher of Camden on Gauley; step-brothers; Carson & Ray Peyatt both of Macon, GA; Roger Peyatt of Quinwood.
Services will be held in Adams-Reed Funeral Home Tuesday Feb. 23, 2010 at 1:00PM with Rev. James Gray officiating

Roger Wayne Short 52 of Craigsville passed away February 18, 2010 in Summersville after a brief illness.
He was born in Lockport, NY on June 15, 1957 a son of the late Joseph and Loretta Catherine Donelson Short. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Ronald and Thomas Jackson Short.
Roger enjoyed fishing, playing his guitar, and working on cars.
Survivors include daughters, Amber Alvis of Gibsonville, NC; Amy Bonds of Malden MO; and Christine Crawford of Wilkes County, NC; brothers, Rowland Short of TN; Roy Short of Princeton, WV; Ray Short of Craigsville, WV; sisters, Linda Lynn of Craigsville; and Adora Short of Rockford, IL; 9- grandchildren.

Dollie B. Carpenter 77 of Cowen passed away February 17, 2010 in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, WV after a brief illness. She was born in Braxton County, WV on April 29, 1932 a daughter of the late Charlie and Dorothy Blankenship Malcomb. Also preceding her in death were son, Terry; brother, Charles Malcomb; sisters, Opal Perrine and Helen Morris.
Dollie was a Protestant by faith, a bookkeeper for Carpenter Logging owned by her husband Dorsey, a loved Mother, Grandmother,sister and aunt.
Survivors include husband, Dorsey; sons and their wives, Ray and Linda of Fayetteville, NC; Harry and Mabel of Cowen, WV; Gary and Jeannie of Clover, SC; daughters and their husbands, Sue and Benny Butcher of Parkersburg; Mary and Jim Wayne;and Sandra and Aubrey Jones all of Cowen; siters, Ruth; Chick and Rita; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Elbert Scott Hosey, Jr., 41 of Miller Ct., Webster Springs, WV, died suddenly, Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 in Webster County Memorial Hospital. He was born July 20, 1968 in Canton, OH to the late Elbert Scott Sr. and Zela Starcher Hosey.
He had lived in Webster County since 1978, and was a Christian by faith. He worked as a lumber grader at Columbia Forest Products with 9 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sporting events, music, and drawing, all with his sons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, He will be missed by those surviving: wife: Tammy Lynn Steed Hosey of Webster Springs, WV, sons: Hoyt and Dalton Hosey both at home, half brother: David Rice of Woodford, VA, and half sister: Sharon Gregory of Webster Springs.

Rosalee “Rose” Hollandsworth, 80 of Cowen, went to be with the Lord with her loving family by her side, February 10, 2010.
She was born June 28, 1929 in Boggs, WV the daughter of the late William “Will” Selman and Lillie Holbrook Selman.
She was retired from Boise Cascade (Raygold) and worked at BF Goodrich.
After she retired she enjoyed being a homemaker. Granny was adored by her daughter, son, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she also adored. She was devoted to the Lord and attended Love & Life Fellowship Church, enjoyed gardening and vacationing at Tennessee.
She is predeceased in death by: her parents; son, Larry Waitman Hollandsworth; daughter, Brenda Lee Hollandsworth; brothers, Herbert Selman, Harold Selman, Carlos Selman and Clyde Selman; and sister, Myrtle Sanson.
She will be sadly missed by: son, Kenneth and Freda Hollandsworth of Cowen; daughter, Connie and Rick Green of Cowen; grandchildren; Freda Carpenter of Cowen, Kenny and Shawnda Green of Cowen, Kathryn and Travis Giles of Ringgold, VA and Karen and Michael Smith of Upperglade; great grandchildren, Allissa Carpenter, Katie and Kendall Giles, and Micah Smith; sister, Jenny Salamalekis of Cleveland, OH; “special” nieces, nephews and friends.

Hinzman "Pete" Rohrbough

Hinzman L. “Pete” Rohrbough, 97, of Webster Springs, WV, passed away Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Webster County Memorial Hospital.
Pete was born November 11, 1912 in Weston, WV to Wade and E. Pearl (Hinzman) Rohrbough. Pete served in the U.S Army during WWII. He and his wife Ercel (Robinson) moved to Webster Springs in 1938.
Pete worked at many things including: glass worker; school teacher; school bus driver; attendance director; probation officer; private investigator; municipal judge among other things.
He was a member of: First Baptist Church of Webster Springs; Addison Lodge AF & AM; Royal Arch Chapter #38; Webster County Senior Citizens and Retired School Teachers.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 brothers and a sister.
He is survived by nephews Leon and Red Whited of White Sulphur Springs; Richard Whited of Birmingham, AL; Kenneth Clutter of Rising Sun, MD; Clarence Clutter of Buckhannon; James Clutter of Ireland, WV; Johnnie and David Clutter and Allen Boggs of Webster Springs; Bruce Clutter of Big Chimney; nieces Mildred Petty of Decatur, IL; Grace Ann Barger of Cowen, and Suzie Young of Bolair.

Gracie Lea Amburgey, 73, of Webster Springs, WV, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Webster County Memorial Hospital.
Gracie was born March 31, 1936 at Gilboa, WV to Ira and Catherine Jones.
She dearly loved her family and made them the center of her life. Gracie was a member of the Bergoo Baptist Church and Choir. Also, she was a youth leader in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H.
Gracie was preceded in death by her parents and husband Chester Leo Amburgey Sr.; sisters Evelyn Stephenson, Irene Murphy, Madge Morris and Marie Wyne; brothers Elmo, Bobby and Dennis Jones.
She will be missed by son Chester L. “Chip” Amburgey Jr. of Webster Springs; daughters Cathy Lea Morton of New Orleans, LA., Katina and husband Wes Wayne of Cowen and Kristin Messer and fiancée Alec Andersen of Webster Springs; brothers Carl Jones of Summersville and Freddy and wife Bonnie Jones of Craigsville; nephew Tim Moffatt; grandsons Bryce Alan and Chace Mikel Wayne; a grandchild arrivingin July; faithful friends Fonda Wyatt an Delores Joy.

James E. “Junior” Short, 41, of Hacker Valley passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010 after a long battle with cancer.
James was born June 21, 1968 in Wooster, OH, but grew up in Webster County, WV and was known to most as Junior. A born again Christian, Junior, loved to spend his time with friends and family or outdoors cutting timber, camping and fishing.
Junior will be greatly missed by his son Charles “CJ” Short of Hacker Valley; daughter Cynthia Short of Webster Springs; father Charles “Bubby” Short and sister Charlotte Short of Hodam Mountain in Hacker Valley; brother Lonnie an wife Jessica Short of Webster Springs; sister Carrie Gress of Wooster, OH; nieces Ashley Cutlip and Chandra Gress and nephews Jeremie Short and Alec Gress and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Marian (Rogers) Short and grandparents Lon and Daisey Rogers and Ethel Short.

Bernice J. Workman 61 of Cowen passed away Monday January 25, 2010 after an extended illness in Raleigh General Hospital.
She was born February 26, 1948 in Clay, WV a daughter of the late Jennings Stewart and Nina Ruth Stephenson. Also preceded in death by husband, Howard Leon Workman and brother, Billy Stephenson.
She was a home maker; and formally a resturant cook and waitress, and member of Cowen Railroad Festival.
Survivors include daughters, Deborah Workman of Cowen; Sarah Boner of Quick, WV; Nina Taylor and Mary Stephenson both of Charleston, WV; John of Saxon, WV; Darrell of Summersville, WV;Robert; Jack and Allen all of Clay, WV; sisters, Dorothy Chapman of Elkview; and Becky Shamblin of Salina, OK; 8-grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

Vera Madge Wilson 90 of Cowen passed away Sunday January 24, 2010 at Summerville Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Erbacon, WV on January 21, 1920 a daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes Ann Holcomb Johns. Madge, as everyone knew her, was retired from Webster County Memorial Hospital as a nurses aid with fourteen years of service, and was a life long resident of Webster County. Also preceding Madge in death was her husband Robert W. Wilson; son John Wilson; grandchildren; baby boy Wilson; and Natalie Dawn Henline; brothers; Andy Johns; Geln Johns; and Earl Johns; sisters; Grace Fleming; Ora Rose; Byrd Bee; Pearl McCourt; and Lilly Benjamin.
Survivors include sons, Walter L. Wilson of Detona, FL; Randal O. Wilson of Geneva, OH; George Mac Wilson of McLean, VA; Roger W. Wilson of Cowen; daughters, Carol J. Henline of Cowen; and Patty L. Wilson; brother, Delbert Ray Johns of Erbacon; sister, Opal Payne of Grassy Creek, WV; 13- grandchildren; 21- great-grandchildren and 4- great-great-grandchildren.

Ruby Lee Clevenger, 81, of Diana WV Passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV.
Ruby was born on September 26, 1928 in Removal, WV to Charles Roscoe & Rosa Emma (Payne) Hall. She attended Union Valley Union Mission Church and enjoyed playing cards.
Along with her parents Ruby is preceded in death by her husband Fred Darrell Clevenger; one son Delmas Leon Clevenger and daughter Attalee Jean Clevenger.
Ruby will be missed by her sons Randy Lee Clevenger of GA, Darrell Lynn Clevenger of Greene, OH and Roger Lyle Clevenger of Diana; her sister Jewell Anderson of Webster Springs; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 from 6 to 9 PM in the chapel of Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 28 at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home with Reverend Curt Davis officiating. Ruby will be laid to rest in the Cogar Cemetery in Guardian, WV.

Doy Roger Johns 58, of Erbacon, WV died at his residence, Jan. 22, 2010 following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 3, 1951 at Erbacon son of Delbert Ray Johns and the late Hazel Green Johns
He was of the Full Gospel Faith, a life long resident of Webster County, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife Pamela Green Johns of Erbacon, Father Delbert Ray Johns of Erbacon, Sons Vincent Johns of Erbacon and Charles Johns of Purcellville, VA, Daughters Linda (Haskel) Young of Erbacon and Renee Wolverton of Cowen. Brother Roy (Margie) Johns of Webster Springs, Sisters Elsie Smith and Barbara (Jeff) Griffith of Cleveland, OH. 4-Grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his mother Hazel Green Johns, Brother Kenneth Johns, Sister Delsie Handshaw, and grandson Leeland Johns.
Service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday Jan. 27, 2010 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs with Rev. Eddie Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Joe McCourt Cemetery, Elk River Rd, Webster Springs. Friends will be received 6-9 Tuesday at the funeral home.

Harriett Hollister of St. Petersburg, Florida died January 19,2010 in Pittsburgh, PA. Memorial services will be held on Saturday January 23, 2010 in Cowen, WV at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Rev. Steve Hamrick officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00PM with funeral at 2:00PM at the funeral home. Born March 14, 1916 in Cowen a daughter of the late W.F. and Ola Hollister. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Lenore Morton of Rainelle and 2 brothers-in-law. Harriett’s survivors include sister Elizabeth Cunningham of Louisville, KY and 2 nieces, Cindy Price of Louisville, KY and Peggy Osborne of Pittsburgh, PA, their husbands John and Gary, 3-great-nieces and 2-great-nephews, and their children.
After graduating from business college in Clarksburg, WV, Harriett lived and worked in Washington, DC as a federal employee. She spent many years as a librarian for the Department of the Interior. While living in Washington she traveled extensively and was active in church and in civic organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution. Harriett retired to St. Petersburg, FL in 1978.
In St. Petersburg, Harriett continued her involvement with the DAR and was a member of the Christian Women’s Club, the BPW and the Home League of the Salvation Army. She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, participating in an adult Sunday School class and singing in the choir. Harriett had also sung in the choir of Foundry United Methodist Church while living in Washington, DC.

Clarence Snyder

Scott Depot — Clarence E. (Skip) Snyder, age 83, died Monday January 18th, 2010 at Angel Avenue Assisted Living, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Snyder is survived by one son: Mark E. Snyder, one Granddaughter: Sephra L. Faulknier (Brian Faulknier), and one Great-grandson: Laken Grant Faulknier. He also leaves behind one brother, Clint Chando Snyder.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents William Sherman and Nettie Pearl (Mullins) Snyder, Wife of 47 years, Rebekah J. (Harrison) Snyder, Brothers, William R. Snyder, John W. Snyder, Ronald Snyder, James Snyder and Sisters Kathyrn F. Thomas and Elizabeth Snyder.
Born in Blair, WV on October 28, 1926 he was then raised in Webster Springs.
In his early years, Clarence would help the family by gathering wood and coal for the winter, gardening in the spring and summer, and in later years, working in the family store.
From High School Clarence joined and served 2 years, 7 months with honor and distinction in the United States Army. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Army Occupation Medal. He also received a Commendation Letter from his Battalion Commander for his excellent manner of performance on an extremely hazardous and dangerous mission on Chindo Island.
After serving with the United States Army Clarence worked in a soda pop distribution business operated by his brother John. He then sought employment with Phillips Petroleum plant in Borger Texas. Years later employment opportunities took him to Fishers Car Body Plant in Cleveland, OH, then to a GoodYear Plant near Waverly, OH where Clarence worked in an atomic energy facility.
A stint with the State of West Virginia Income Tax Division occurred prior to accepting a position with Department of Defense, Defense Supply Agency during the Viet Nam war. Here he was involved in the manufacturing of the crucial armored personal carriers necessary for the Armed Forces stationed overseas. This position expanded into another Federal position in Pittsburgh, PA., as a Management Analyst. During his tenure with the Department of Defense Clarence received numerous awards.
Finally in 1971 Clarence retired from the Federal Government and started a position as Legislative Auditor for the State of West Virginia. His uncanny aptitude at mathematics and detail allowed him to excel and enjoy this job. He remained at this position until his retirement in 1987.
Retirement found Clarence and Rebekah moving to their beloved home place in Webster Springs, WV., where they were surrounded for years by close friends and relatives. Activities included digging ramps, raising chickens, nursing a deer fawn, remodeling the old house, fishing, traveling, lazy mornings and long afternoons.
Services will be held this Saturday, January 23rd , 2010 at Dodd and Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, WV. Visitation will be 11:00am followed by the Funeral at 1:00pm. Interment will be in the family cemetery.


 
 
Hamrick, Timothy
January 15, 2010

Timmy Hamrick, 23, of Webster Springs, WV passed away Friday, January 15, 2010.
Timmy was born on May13, 1986 to Cindy Farooq of Webster Springs. He was married to Cynthia Marie (Stewart) Hamrick and they had a beautiful baby boy named Michael J. Hamrick.
Timmy is survived by his mother; wife; son; maternal grandfather Andrew Claypool; step-grandmother Sarah Claypool; sister Madge Hall all of Webster Springs; sister Kathryn Quinn of Sutton; sister Anna Topping of Huntington; and brother Basil Hamrick, Jr of Cowen.
Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 9 PM in the chapel of Dodd & Reed Funeral Home on Monday, January 18, 2010. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 1 PM also at the funeral home with Rev. Curt Davis officiating. Timmy will be laid to rest in the Vance Cemetery, Hacker Valley.


 
 
William Glenn “Pokey” Barbe

William Glenn Barbe, 49, of Diana, WV died suddenly on Wednesday, January 13, 2010.
He was born in Webster Springs on September 20, 1960 to William Bradley and Doris June (Townsend) Barbe. Glenn lived his entire life in Webster County where he attended Holly River Baptist Church. Known to friends as Pokey, Glenn was a self-employed log truck driver that loved his work. He also enjoyed ATV mud races and hunting with his son.
Glenn will be greatly missed by his parents; wife Beverly (Groves) Barbe; son Bradley Keith Barbe all of Diana, WV; daughters Jessica & husband Matt White of Craigsville and Sarah & husband Tim McIe of Hacker Valley; grandson Richard McIe; granddaughters Alexis & Jasmine White; sisters Judy & husband Rick Johnson of Mt. Nebo and Robin & husband Mike Hamrick of Webster Springs as well as his neighbors and friends.
The funeral service will be on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 2 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Cosner officiating. Burial will be in the Big Run Cemetery, Diana. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the funeral home.


 
 
Mrs. Delsie Mae Carpenter

Mrs. Delsie Mae Carpenter, 84, of Webster Springs, WV passed away Friday, January 8, 2010 at her daughter’s residence.
Delsie was born on November 25, 1925 in Summersville, WV to John and Janie (Ackley) Woods. She was a member of the Compassionate Hope Church in Webster Spring and was the past secretary and treasurer.
Along with her parents Delsie was reunited with her late husband Walter James Carpenter.
Delsie will be greatly missed by: daughter Gloria and husband Terry Copen of Akron, OH; sons Darrel with wife Jenny Carpenter of Webster Springs and James with wife Judy Carpenter of Ravenna, OH; sisters Armethia Mehley of CA, Shay Hollman of NE and Ruth Viands of WV; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 6 to 9 PM in the chapel of Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, January 13 at 1 PM also at the funeral home with the Reverends Steve Stafanov and Tim Ackers officiating. Shirley Jean Tharp, 63, of Cowen, WV, passed away Monday, January 4, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Born June 17, 1946 in Webster Springs, she was a daughter of Ernest and Aretta Parker. Shirley attended the Emmanuel Assembly of God in Upperglade, WV.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her brother Elvin Parker.
Shirley will be missed by husband Jack Lee Tharp, daughters: Jacqueline (Ashley) Reed of Cowen and Cindy (Jackie) Partin of Webster Springs; son Elvin (Heather) Tharp of Elyria, OH; brother Novel (Debra) Parker of Cowen; sister Donna (Delmos) Clutter of Webster Springs; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, January 7, 2010 from 6 to 9 PM in the Chapel of Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 8, 2010 at 1PM also at the funeral home. Rev. Marty Cowger will be officiating. Lloyd Jefferson “Shorty“ Harrison
86 of Excelsior Rd., Webster Springs, died on Dec. 26, 2009 in Summersville Memorial Hospital. He was born in Webster Springs on Sept. 13, 1923, the son of the late Anderson & Mary McAvoy Harrison. He was a lifelong resident of Webster County and a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church at Bolair, WV. He was formerly a coal tipple supervisor and later a self employed laborer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Loretta Davis Harrison, brothers: Don, Eldridge, Maxwell and Jake and sisters: Becky, Mary Ellen, and Kathleen.
He is survived by a daughter: Mary Beth Harrison of California, step son: Dennis O’Connor of LaPlata, MD and five grandchildren.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 09, 2010, at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Rev. Tom Kessler officiating. Burial will be in the McAvoy Cemetery, Bolair, WV. Friends may call from 11 a.m. til 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 09, 2010 at the funeral home.
