Life Tribute VideoHerbert James Bender of Belington, WV passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born July 25, 1957 in Buckhannon to Velma Cowger Bender Jordan of Hacker Valley and the late Jearl “Curt” Bender. Herbert was a Baptist by faith and attended Hacker Valley Baptist Church. He enjoyed many things including wood working, gardening, carpentry, fishing, and hunting, but the one thing he enjoyed doing the most was spoiling his grandson Dakota. He was preceded into death by his father Jearl “Curt” Bender, one brother, Irvin David Bender, and one sister, Mary Mills. He is survived by his wife; Betty Brown Bender of Belington, WV, son; Edwin Bender of Belington, two daughters; Lena Mae (Michael) Hicks of Salisbury, NC, Sandy Bender (fiancée John Cockerham) also of Belington, grandson; Dakota Ray Bender of Belington, mother, Velma Bender Jordan of Hacker Valley, brothers; Edward (Brenda) Bender of Richmond, VA, Ernest Bender also of Richmond, VA, Marvin (Becky) Bender of Pounds, VA, Andrew (Heather) also of Pounds, VA, and two stepbrothers; Rodney (Terry) Jordan of Lewisburg, Randall (Vickie) Jordan of Hacker Valley, sisters; Linda (Dewayne) Mayle of Clarksburg, Geretta Pugh of French Creek, Connie (Tom) Clark of Charleston, Carla (Frankie) Williams of Replete, Desta (Dalton) Harvey of Silver Spring, MD, and Renita (Bobby) Crowe of Colonial Heights, VA. Friends will be received 6pm – 9pm Wednesday, July 7 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. Services will be held at 2pm Thursday, July 8, at Hacker Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Swecker officiating. He will be buried at Cutlip Cemetery in Hacker Valley.
